I think Valentine’s Day has developed into such a high standardized holiday for people in my generation that they forget the real reason it exists, Now, don’t get me wrong because I am single and have never really had a “real” boyfriend so I might be considered too young or inexperienced concerning topics like love and V-day, but that does not mean that I do not see or understand the purpose of this holiday.
In my opinion, Valentine’s Day can be a day for everyone: singles and couples. For the people in relationships of course they might spend it a little differently such as going on a romantic date or some other really romantic outing, but the big idea is the same for everyone.
Valentine’s day is supposed to be the day you express to your loved ones how much you appreciate them and how much you love them whether or not you do that on a daily basis. That is why it is still a day for the sans-boyfriend or sans-girlfriend people. They can spend it with friends or family and just show how much the care for one another.
This brings me to another point of about how some people try too hard or expect too much when this day comes around. You should not have to express your love for someone by how amazing or expensive the gifts you bought for them were. To me, it really is “the thought that counts” as cliche as it sounds.
